Artful Lil' Hands - An Artsy Week...

It's a new theme for our playgroup this season and we are into ART!!! We kicked start this theme with a visit to the Singapore Art Museum...
We were greeted by an ENORMOUS balloon flower installation... can't help but to take some shots of this piece of art.
The kids had fun running around the SAM signage and the balloon flower...
While within the museum, the kids had the opportunity to run around the vast amount of space and be exposed to different many creative art installations.
Our friends, Caitlin & Emily, from the Artful Lil' Hands. Even the floor tiles of the place is a piece of art don't you think?

The mommies loved the Korean Contemporary Art Show a lot... and I must say, it's a wonderful eye opener to the kids and mommies alike. If only we had more time to go through all the exhibits one-by-one without having to keep an eye on the kids lest they topple or break any of the exhibits... *whoopsy*

I was personally fascinated and mesmerized by the great art that we have in this museum... told myself I MUST visit there again someday...
We noted that there was a play area for the kids in the map of the place but we really stumble upon it more than found our way to it... what a great place for the kids to have some fun & games while the mommies sat down to have a chat...

Though the kids may be a little young to really appreciate art, but the exposure is priceless... I haven't had that privilege when I was at Tim/Little Missy's age... so I hope that my kids will be more all-rounded and be able to appreciate art as they grow.

Another area I hope for Tim to be more well exposed to is music. What better way to appreciate orchestra music than to watch it live.

We were at the Babies Proms 2008 this morning with Caitlin & Hann. I was glad that Tim and I were there! Tim had the opportunity to see and hear how real musical instruments sounded like especially after watching so much of Little Einsteins on the Playhouse Disney Channel....

Tim pointed out the harp immediately after we've found our seats... and subsequently during the show, he saw and heard a real trumpet, trambone, violin, cello, cymbal etc... even if he didn't know how to appreciate the orchestra music today, he's learned something new I am sure...

I've decided to pick up the SSO Edu-taining Activity Book & CD... Within the package there was:
1) Discover Music with Uncle Peter activity book with an accompanying audio CD for the kids to follow as they go through the book; learning about the orchestra and its instruments.
2) Open the Door to Music (designed for parents and teachers) - a step-by-step guide to introducing classical music to children.
3) Bonus Audio CD - Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Ballet Act II

I thought it wasn't a bad deal at all given that it costed me $20 and the vast amount of information both Tim and I could draw from them... *smile* great for our homeschool activities...

Hi Pauline,
Try the Carnival of the Animals - it is a very good intro to the instruments of the orchestra.
You can get the book on amazon.com and it comes with the cd. I use this to supplement the-K2s music curriculum for an introduction to instruments.

Peter and the Wolf is the other one that is not bad as well.
