Happenings around us...

Many people asked me how come I haven't been updating my blog as regularly as before... sigh... there's just too much things happening around us of late... that I either have no time nor the energy to blog..

The Demise of my Father-in-law
It was with greatest regret that we've lost my father-in-law to the battle of the disease... he's finally succumbed to the toll of liver cancer... he passed on peacefully on Thursday, 1st Feb... we've been shuttling up and down the wake the past few days... it's usually during these times (CNY and someone who passed away in the family) that we get to see all the members of the family gathering together... I've finally met all of my in-laws (I guess)...

Developments of Timothy
Tim's 13months old now... time flew past us at an unbelievably fast speed... that we didn't realize he's grown so much more (not just physically)... he's more conscious of what's happening around him, and is able to remember a lot more things that we've taught him or talked about to him... it's AMAZING!

What's more amazing, we are witnessing all that Montessori has observed in children unfolding before us day-by-day...

Signs of Independence -
We noticed that he's showing signs of independence when he refused to let us hold his milk bottle during his feeding time...

Signs of improved motor skills -
He's able to climb up and down the staircase independently, without our holding him... while there are still 'accidents' that occur occasionally when he lost his balance... overall we were pleasantly surprise that he knows how to climb down the staircase legs followed by butt down first... both hubby and I were so amused when we witnessed him doing that...

Signs of improved eye-hand-coordination -
At the wake recently, we gave him an empty cup (those that were served to the guest), where there was a straw in the cup... we noticed he was very focused on putting the straw into the hole (where it was initially pricked) the hole was so tiny but he was able to get the straw through... he did that repeatedly and each time he managed to put the straw through the hole, he was so pleased with himself that he smile from ear-to-ear...best of all, he was very quiet during this whole time as he repeatedly perform this exercise...

This is as described by Montessori -
Repetition: Any task we undertake with any reasonable interest must be repeated in order to master it. We have a drive to do something over and over until we gain control over our action. Montessori encourages children to repeat, without needing to adhere to a schedule. The children should decide when they are finished with an activity. This develops powerful powers of concentration.

Perfection: Perfection is acheived through repetition. People who do work they love and have the opportunity to perfect it are happy people. Children who allowed to acheive perfection on activities of their choosing learn internal satisfaction. This is not perfectionism, but merely an enjoyment of a job well-done.

Signs of better memory -
That day, hubby, was carrying him near the fridge and he was gesturing and shouting 'there, there, there', he was actually trying to tell hubby he wanted the orange in the fridge... this was taught to him by my brother-in-law...

While there was a pile of flashcards on the floor, he lifted the picture with a hand and he put out his hand and started to open and close his fist... we were told that my sis-in-law has been teaching him to open and close his fist...

He'll show us the sign of gong xi gong xi when he's happy... this was also taught to him by my sis-in-law...

aiyooo how can we not love this endearing chap... he's simply tooooooo adorable to us...

Timothy's sick
Poor boy has been down with throat infection + cough + phlegm... he's been coughing every night at approximately the same time, ie. 10pm-11pm... he'll cough till he wakes up and hubby and I were so flustered... we're praying hard that he'll overcome this phase and be restored with a clean bill of health soon...

Many thanks Jean... for your encouragement and for reading my blog... ;)

We are doing fine as my FIL has been ill for quite a while, hence his death didn't come as a sudden shock... we are thankful that he passed on peacefully...

Hi Jo,

Thanks for your concerns... we are doing fine... :)

Ya, am getting very busy as Tim grows day-by-day... and am getting increasingly exhausted as I advance in my pregnancy... nevertheless am happy that I could still steal some moments to update some short entries once in a while...
